Achilles 3 - 2 Old Newton 23/11/13

Achilles raced into an early lead after only 2 minutes. Old Newton United failed to properly clear a corner allowing Kieran Donovan space to turn and plant the ball into the corner of the goal. The visitors played themselves back into the game and were rewarded when Ashley Rankin forced his way past the Achilles defence to round the keeper for the equaliser.

Old Newton United took the lead early in the second period, Josh Luxford pouncing on a weak pass out of defence. Achilles made 3 substitutes, pressed forward and it was one of the replacements, Jack Wilkinson, who equalised from close range and then put the home side ahead following up Ben Taylor's blocked shot.

The final 20 minutes was end to end football with both goalkeepers called upon to make first class saves – Jason Bones from Gavin Johnson's curling free kick and Craig Brand from a Chris Leys header and then again from a Taylor cross shot. Andy Coote was unlucky to strike the crossbar as Achilles played out to the final whistle.
