Achilles 1 - 1 Grundisburgh (BobColeman Cup) 28/12/13

AET 1-1 Grundisburgh win 4-3 on penalties

One goal apiece after 120 minutes, it needed two excellent penalty saves by Grundisburgh goalkeeper Adam Wilson to separate the sides and send the visitors through to the next round. With both teams in the semifinal of the Suffolk Senior Cup and occupying first and second places in the senior division of the Suffolk and Ipswich League it was a shame that one in-form team had to go out at the first hurdle.

Grundisburgh opened the scoring just before half time. Josh Kerridge played a one-two with Lyndon Alexander on the left wing, Kerridge cut inside and his shot was blocked by the home keeper, Aaron Churchyard gratefully accepted the rebound. Achilles equalised straight from the restart of the second half, a long punt down the middle eluded two defenders and Andy Coote made no mistake running on to the loose ball. Chris Leys had the chance to put Achilles in front but his first time shot at an unguarded goal struck the post and Kerridge headed over Mills pinpoint cross on 85 minutes.

Grundisburgh had the better of the first half of extra time and Chris Pratt's powerful drive was deflected over the cross bar by Robbie Smyth's head. Achilles controlled the final period but were unable apply the final touch in a couple of goalmouth scrambles.
