Achilles 2 - 1 Wenhaston United 11/1/14

Achilles extended their lead at the top of the Suffolk and Ipswich League to 5 points.  Wenhaston's Justyn Chenery had the first clear effort on goal in the first half,  his glancing header just shaving the crossbar but it was Andy Coote who provided the quality in a dour first half to give the home team the lead after 35 minutes when he volleyed home from the edge of the penalty area.

Wenhaston United's goalkeeper Adam Smith was in good form and saved well from James Horsfall's downward header and later spread himself well to deny Kieran Donovan at close range.  Wenhaston could have equalised when an opening was created for Stuart Tomkins on the overlap but his shot was wide of the goal.

Achilles extended their lead midway through the second half.  Joe Revell raced on to a through pass by Dominic Arnold and one on one with the goalkeeper struck against the inside of the post.  The alert assistant referee flagged for a goal as Smith scooped the ball back from behind the line.  Wenhaston pulled one back through Chenery, but it was too late for the visitors to get anything more from the game.
