Achilles 2 - 2 Haughley United 1/2/14

Sterling work by the Pauls groundsman made this one of only two games played in the senior division of the SIL and consequently attracted a large crowd. Achilles dominated the early exchanges and took the lead through Chris Leys.   Arron Mayhew in the visitor's goal saved well from Leys' header and again from Sean Bell's follow up.  Haughley came back into the game and Lewis Bell brought a fingertip save out of Jason Bones.  Bones however couldn't hold on to the resulting corner and the ball fell kindly to Tom West for the equaliser.  Haughley continued to look dangerous on the break and took the lead with an unstoppable shot by Nathan Smith cutting in from the left wing.  Achilles responded but Mayhew produced a triple save from Andy Coote, Leys and then Ben Taylor.

The second half saw Achilles in control.  Sean Bell equalised immediately after the restart from Liam Hillyard's inswinging corner.  Mayhew produced further saves from first Taylor then Hillyard but was beaten by another huge Hillyard inswinging corner, but the goal was ruled out as the linesman had spotted an earlier push.  In the dying minutes, Coote struck the inside of the goalpost but the ball rebounded into Mayhew's arms with Leys poised for the winner.
