Achilles 2 - 3 Ipswich Wanderers (Suffolk Cup SF)

Wanderers fought back from a goal down to see off the SIL league-leaders 3-2 and book a Portman Road rematch with Whitton United. Achilles took the lead in the fifth minute through Andy Coote, who latched onto a threaded through ball by Joe Revell to burst through and score. The same player then came close again moments later as his effort rattled the crossbar.

Wanderers, holders of the competition, finally started to wake up mid-way through the half with long-range efforts from Jack Severy and Ollie Canfer testing Achilles keeper Jason Bones. Bones had to be at his best to keep out Craig Jennings before Wanderers finally levelled in the 61st minute, as a brilliant cross from Severy was met by a thundering Jennings header. Wanderers seized the initiative and took the lead three minutes later as Remi Garrett beat two defenders before finishing low into the far corner. Severy saw his powerful effort smartly saved before crossing the resulting corner for Luke Read to head home and extend Wanderers’ advantage. Achilles pulled one back soon after when Liam Hillyard stole in to head past Kevin Bugg but it was too little too late for the SIL side as Wanderers held on to once again move into the final of the competition.
