Club Notes April 21 2014

Since Achilles' last notes both teams have made significant progress to the possibility for both of champions in their respective competitions - SIL Senior League and SIL Inter A League. The Seniors beat lowly Westerfield at Rushmere Sports Centre last Wednesday evening by the only goal of the match - a superb lofted drive by back in form Dom' Arnold - and, then, on Saturday a fine 3-0 win over third in the table, Ipswich Valley Rangers. Actually, Westerfield, despite their lowly position looked a fair outfit which they confirmed on Saturday, helping Achilles along the way, by drawing with our closest challengers, Grundisburgh. The Ipswich VR's result was possibly the performance of the season and our hosts would not have complained if the tally had been seven or eight. Marksmen were Keiron Dononvan, Dom Arnold and Ben Taylor. Two games to go and the "comfort results" would be four points from Wenhaston away and Felixstowe Utd at home.

Meanwhile, just after the Seniors' Westerfield game, on the Thursday, the Inter As triumphed over old rivals Crane Sports at Greshams, also by the only goal of the match although I'm reliably informed that this could have been more. Veteran Ross Charters had a fine game between the "sticks" but this was very much a team result which opens again the road to the top. Unfortunately, Ransomes Sports were unable to fulfil Saturday's fixture which has been reorganised for this Wednesday, just before the "top table" clash at home against table leaders, Cops', on Saturday - all to play for lads!

Away from the park a reminder of the Presentation Evening on the 10th May which we've decided to make a "family evening" with self-made refreshments and the "odd game". In addition a further reminder of Achilles' 16th Reunion Dinner arranged for Friday 16th May (phone Dave Morgan on 435867 for tickets - £23), and of the Annual Golf Day on the 4th July - (contact Alan Middle). The events are in the Pauls clubhouse and the Golf Day at Seckford Golf Club.
