Club Notes 15 September 2014

An excellent week-end for Achilles with both Seniors and Inter As overcoming their opposing two Wenhaston sides. The Seniors were away at the villagers in the north of the County and, having gone one down early on, fought back to lead at the break through new boys Ben Deacon and Dean Tournay-Godfrey. Although our hosts had the better of the second period, certainly in terms of the midfield, the defensive duo of young Dale Hammond and veteran Austin King, the latter stepping up from the Inter As, were prominent in securing all three points and, hopefully, indicating the way for a successful run after the faltering start. Dean was named our "man of the match" and is clearly shaking off his early season injury. My informants advise me that supporting Achilles was 1950s ace marksman, Geoff Titlow, who lives fairly close to Wenhaston and a special word of thanks to Geoff for his continued interest.

Meanwhile, at Salmet Close, Wenhaston's Inter As looked a competent squad, coming to Ipswich with an unbeaten record thus far. However, at last, Jamie King and Liam Bell were able to field almost their strongest squad, and with Ben Taylor, in particular, in irresistible form our visitors were swept aside via a 7-1 reverse with Ben scoring four. Selby (2) and McCarthy (the younger) were the other marksmen.

This coming Saturday the Seniors welcome Haughley United to Salmet Close while the Inter As visit the youthful Coplestonians Inter As. Parish notes reveal that the 100 Club starts shortly for another season and a reminder to the few Suffolk FA disciplinary "sinners" that their fines, and a few other dues, must be repaid to Achilles as soon as possible.
