Club Notes 29 September 2014

Mixed fortunes for ACHILLES last Saturday with the Seniors "breezing" past Capel Plough over at the village ground in an SIL Senior League encounter, while the Inter As narrowly lost out in the end at home against Lowestoft Town Reserves in the Suffolk Senior Reserves Cup competition.

Rather like the previous Senior game against Haughley, Achilles were very much on the front foot from the first whistle and, in no time at all, goals from Dean Tournnay-Godfrey (2), Ben Deacon and Danny Allan gave us literally an unassailable advantage by the break.
Our hosts came back in the second period but it was a bridge too far for them and, with Kieron Donovan for the second season in succession, accidentally side-lining "big brother, Miles in the Capel defence, the 4-0 score line was easily held, for Achilles to climb to equal second in a tight Senior League table.

The Inter As were proud to welcome the reserves of highflying Lowestoft Town and were immediately into the lead via a smart move and clinical finish by Marc Rowley, followed by a missed penalty by Ben Taylor and, then, a bravely converted second penalty from Ben, to put Achilles two ahead. Over this period had two or three obvious chances been put away the out come would have been an excellent result for our Inter As; however, the youthful and skillful Lowestoft side reduced the deficit just before the break and, as the second half proceeded, came more and more into the game and two lightning breaks saw them into a 3-2 lead which they held with some difficulty up to the final whistle. Disappointing for the lads to make such an early exit from the County competition but the Lowestoft contingent were full of praise for the Achilles' showing.
This Saturday the Seniors entertain lowly Wickham Market at Salmet Close while the Inter As are away at Felixstowe Harpers FC.

Away from the park the 100 Club is underway with recent winners listed as "Boozer" Sayer and Rex Young.
