Club notes Feb 24 2013

Another successful week-end for Achilles with the Seniors beating Old Newton 3-0 in a home fixture and the Inter As, affected somewhat by injuries and the like, securing a fine 2-2 result at Trimley against the Red Devils' Inter As. The Seniors' game was always interesting with some attractive football played by both sides but the finishing power of Achilles finally secured all three points through goals from Jack Wilkinson, a fine lobbed shot, a penalty from Dom' Arnold, and a late cross shot from Marc Lowe. Unfortunately, Micky Adams suffered a recurrence of his knee injury in the warm up and skipper, Brent Richards, was also absent suffering from leg and wrist injuries - both could be out for some time. These developments could place a strain on managers, Osborn and Bartlett's, squad although they appear most upbeat with the former even making a cameo appearance late in a game which sees us climbing to fourth in the League table.

Meanwhile, Inter A manager, Shaun Deller, experienced some early selection problems before the trip to Felixstowe and, in all the circumstances, the draw at Stennett's Field was a most satisfying effort with brother Philip securing both goals in a match which was a prelude to the Reserve Cup semi-final to be played at the same venue in a few weeks' time. This coming Saturday the Seniors are at home again, the second time in a run of four home games on the trot, against Coplestonians, who have had a fine season thus far after a hesitant start back at Senior level, while the Inter As travel to Old Newton. Finally, well done to Achilles' members who helped to make Pauls' Quiz Night such a success.
