Club Notes 9 November 2014

Another successful week-end for Achilles with the Seniors winning at Grundisburgh 5-3 and the Inter As sending East Bergholt's Inter As back up the A12 the wrong side of an 8-4 score line.

Pride of place must go to the Inter A squad and to manager, Jamie King, in particular who, despite suffering a touch of pneumonia, was in attendance albeit taking time out now and then for hot cups of coffee. At one stage just after the break Achilles were 7-1 ahead with six of those recorded by a deadly Carl McCarthy with the others going to Tommy Vale and Ricky Deasy. Bergholt were by no means a pushover and all their four goals were expertly put away by the very experienced Ian Gedny. In addition to the sheer number of goals the game itself was significant for some flowing football doing justice to the Inter A League. The only concerning thing from Achilles' point of view, was what appeared to be a nasty knee injury to veteran, Austin King, and we all hope that his situation is better than first feared.

Meanwhile, over at Grundisburgh, in a match spoilt by the harsh wind, the Seniors were at one point 3-0 to the good but a much changed home side came back twice before Achilles' tally was just too far away for them. Our marksmen were Ben Taylor (2), former Grundisburgh man, Dean Tourney-Godfrey (2), and Andy Coote.
Both games were preceded by a minutes silence in memory of SFA and SIL veteran, Peter Cocker who will be a sad loss to local football.

Next Saturday both teams meet Stanton with the Seniors travelling to north Suffolk and the Inter As welcoming Stanton in the Gipping Press Cup.
