Club Notes1 December 2014

Another successful week-end for Achilles with the Seniors winning 4-0 at fellow SIL competitors, Grundisburgh, this time in the 2nd round of the Suffolk Senior Cup, while the Inter As sent Felixstowe Harpers Inter As back to the resort via an impressive 6-1 score line in the SIL Inter A League competition.

The Seniors had won at the village a few weeks ago in an SIL Senior League match by 5-3 in a match where, at times, we struggled somewhat against plucky opposition. This time the gap between both teams was much more distinct and once Lee McGlone (a wonder strike) and Andy Coote (a rebound from the 'keeper's clearance) had found the net there was little doubt as to the ultimate winner and further goals from Andy (a penalty) and Jack Wilkinson (a header from a corner) saw the squad through to the quarter finals (scheduled for March 7th).

Meanwhile, the Inter As, strengthened by the capture of Andy Richards from Claydon, were off to a cracking start via a 40 yard pile driver from defender Matt McCarthy, who then headed in almost immediately for a second. Thereafter, little doubt as to the final winner although our visitors had a number of talented players in their squad including Achilles' former Manager, Alan Middle's son. Further marksmen were Andy (2), Danny Bond and Ricky Deasy. Despite the goal scoring stars by far man of the match was Nathan Collins in defence.

This Saturday, no game for the Seniors but the Inter As welcome Old Newton's Inter As to Salmet Close.
