Club Notes 8 December 2014

No Seniors' game for Achilles last Saturday and so the focus was on the Inter As who welcomed Old Newton's counterparts to Salmet Close on a sunny if chilly afternoon.

The pitch was in fabulous condition, thanks to Stone Lodge Bowls Club's chairman's dedication, and it will be interesting to see how far Darryle Flegg's work will be recognised in the forthcoming Suffolk FA's maintenance competition. Bear in mind there are sometimes three games per week-end played on the pitch!

Clearly, with no Senior game, manager, Jamie King, had the pick of the Club for the game but he was faithful to the strong squad which has performed so well thus far this season and, once again, he was rewarded with a goal fest courtesy of an 8-3 score line over plucky opponents. I emphasise "plucky" in that, despite their lowly position, the villagers fought all the way and, apparently, that was all the more meritorious in that their first team's late calls had severely affected them. Marksmen for Achilles were "Scoop" McCarthy (4), brother Matt, Andy Richards (2), and Matty Starling.

This coming Saturday the Seniors are at Haughley while the Inter As are once again at home - this time against Ipswich Valley Rangers.

A reminder to players that the Pauls Sports & Social Club's annual sub is due (payments to Achilles in the first instance), a few Suffolk FA fines remain outstanding (again payments to Achilles in the first instance), In addition, raffle tickets for the Xmas Draw should be returned no later than 7 30pm on Sunday 28th December with the Draw taking place at 8pm in the Pauls' Club. Prize donations would be gratefully received.

Finally, several Achillians attended Peter Cocker's funeral service and wake last Thursday and the tremendous turnout was a clear indication of the affection and respect felt to a real servant of Suffolk football.
