Club Notes 11 January 2015

At the outset, full marks to hosts, Bramford, for their significant 4-0 success over our Seniors on Saturday - they fully deserved the win. From Achilles' viewpoint this was a most disappointing outcome against one of the Senior Leagues' newcomers who have enjoyed a most successful season thus far. No excuses but the simple facts are that: "rustiness" was a major outcome of no game since 20th December; our squad system not meeting its best endeavours; the sudden half-time easing of the gale to Achilles' disadvantage; and a would-be equaliser immediately after half-time disallowed by the only onlooker who saw it that way - the asst' referee. No more, otherwise "sour grapes" will be levelled at this scribe. It is a fact that at the 88th minute Bramford led by just 2-0 but poor play in those two final minutes, plus the "add-ons", saw two more to really rub it in! My informants advise me that only Chris Leys performed anywhere near to maximum expectations.

The Inter As are in an even more "no games" situation with nothing to do since the hard fought 3-2 win over Ipswich Valley Rangers Inter As back on the 13th December. As the result of the home Gipping Press Cup tie against Grundisburgh Inter As also losing out to the weather the previous Saturday the tie was re-scheduled for this Saturday gone but, surprisingly, Grundisburgh were unable to raise a side and so Achilles proceed to the next round. Achilles understand that Grundisburgh are suffering management problems at this point in time and I'm sure I echo the sympathy of everyone participating in the SIL and hope that this most successful Club over the seasons can rapidly put things together.

This coming Saturday - just one game with the Seniors welcoming Stanton to Salmet Close.
