Club Notes 19 January 2015

Another Saturday with no game for the Inter As but the Seniors were pleased to welcome Stanton to Salmet Close for a SIL Senior League encounter - on an almost perfect surface! Our visitors have had their problems this season and, of course, have been obliged to withdraw their Inter As from the League. They, sadly, are not the only Club with similar problems and all of us at Achilles do hope that they can overcome theirs. After the crushing 4-0 defeat at Bramford the week before it was imperative for managers Osborn and Deller that the squad returned to winning ways, if our quest to hold onto the Senior League title was to be maintained. There ensued a most attractive game with Stanton looking a goodly team but excellent play on our part saw Andy Coote and Ben Taylor give us a 2-0 interval lead. However, "organised panic" immediately after the break with Stanton scoring twice to level the scores. It then took a little while to regain the initiative but most attractive play on the part of our forwards saw the final score at 6-2 in our favour with the final marksmen, Andy Coote, Ben Taylor and Dean Tournay-Godfrey notching two apiece. Goal provider, Dom Arnold, was our "man of the match". Sad for our visitors but Achilles did play some fine football in those final 20 or so minutes!

This coming Saturday, weather allowing, we welcome Grundisburgh to Salmet Close while Jamie King's Inter As make the long journey to Wenhaston. Incidentally, on a date to be notified, the next round of the Gipping Press Cup sees the Inter As travelling to Hoxne.

Finally, an early reminder that the next social event will be a joint Race Night with Chirstchurch Ladies Netball Club on the 14 March in the Pauls' clubhouse.
