Club Notes 2nd February 2015

Sad coincidence for both Achilles' teams on Saturday with a 4-3 score line against for each squad.

The Seniors' game, watched by a goodly crowd, despite the "attraction" down the hill at Portman Road had almost everything with our visitors, by their high standards, occupying a mid table position, belying that modest position to take all three points. No "sour grapes" they just about deserved their win although we were on the wrong side of two poor off side decisions, one in attack, one in defence, the latter leading to IVR's crucial third goal.  At 4-2 down, with just seconds left, all seemed lost but a slightly generous penalty decision saw Andy Coote add his second but, in retrieving the ball in the laudable intent to get the ball to the centre spot post haste, he was blatantly tripped, reacted, and was dismissed - but what about the perpetrator completely let free by the referee? There you are - some you win, some you lose, but do we pursue the expensive appeal route?

Meanwhile, a significantly understrength Inter A squad was over at bottom Club, Old Newton, the latter strengthened by first teamers with their 1st team idle. Notwithstanding, in to the second half Achilles were 3-2 to the good but complacency aided the homesters' recovery to that 4-3 win.

This Saturday the Seniors are away at Leiston St Margarets while the Inter As entertain Crane Sports Inter As in a crucial "six-pointer" at Salmet Close. Finally, don't forget - 2 30 kick-offs from 1st February now, except Cup games 2 00 pm.
