Club Notes 9 February 2015

Judged by the standards we have set this season a poor old outcome from the week-end with the Seniors only managing a 2-2 draw at bottom of the table, Leiston St. Margaret's, and the Inter As, at home, losing out by 3-1 in the top of the table clash against the powerful Crane Sports Inter As. The Seniors paid the penalty for not taking the numerous chances available although, through Ben Deacon and Joe Revell, they were 2-0 to the good with just 15 minutes to go. Then, the homesters were awarded a penalty, put away, when the ball struck the hand of one of our defenders (is that a penalty?) and with just a few minutes left a lob found its way into our net to conclude a disappointing afternoon.

Meanwhile the Inter As welcomed Crane Sports Inter As to Salmet Close for that top of the table encounter and with every hope of upsetting the strong visitors. Not to be, with Sports away to a flying start and, by the break, three up. In territorial terms the second half was all Achilles but, with former Achillian, Des' Burn, in outstanding form in Crane's goal, just one strike from Darren Abbott was possible despite most of the action in Des' goalmouth.

Away from the action many congratulations to Stone Lodge Bowls Club's chairman, Darryle Flegg, who has won the SFA's groundsman's accolade for the excellent condition of the Pauls Sports & Social Club's pitch. The competition now moves forward to a regional level in March.

This coming Saturday we welcome Wenhaston Utd FC to Salmet Close while the Inter As are at Hoxne against the village's Inter Cs in the SIL Gipping Press Cup.
