Club Notes 23 February 2015

Another good week-end for Achilles with the Seniors proceeding to the next round of the SIL Bob Coleman Cup via a narrow 2-1 win over Stanton while the Inter As enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory away against the Inter As of East Bergholt.

The Seniors' game was quite different to the recent home League game between the two sides, which ended in a resounding 6-2 win for Achilles. This time Stanton were equal to the task well into the second half and, indeed, took the lead via a fine free kick. However, a typical half volley from Dom Arnold and, with time running out, his well struck corner met by Dean TD's head, saw us through to the next round and a fascinating tie against near neighbours, Ipswich Athletic who, currently, are in line for promotion from the SIL 1st Division, the SFA Junior Cup, and of course, the Bob Coleman Cup.

Meanwhile, after a shaky start, the Inter As cruised back to second place in the Inter A table through goals from an "og", Carl and Matt McCarthy, and Andy Richards.
An interesting feature of both games were the outstanding performances of the Musttoe brothers - Doug' in the Achilles' Inter A's goal and his brother, tempted back after 13 months retirement, under Stanton's goal posts - and, as mentioned, performing so very well as if he'd never gone away!

Away from the park recent 100 Club winners were No: 3 Gary Bartlett and No: 10 Ann Routh. Finally, another reminder of the Race Night to be held in the Pauls Sports & Social Club at 7 00 pm on the 14 MARCH - all welcome.
