Haughley United 4 - 2 Achilles 22/8/15

A disappointing start for Achillles' Seniors at Haughley this afternoon with the homesters taking all three points from a 4-2 scoreline. In tropical conditions and on a well-grassed pitch the first half was an attractive, even, affair with the shorter passing game of Achilles contrasting with the longer ball approach of Haughley. Just when the first half seemed likely to finish scoreless Haughley's left winger opened their account with a stunning cross shot. Achilles responded immediately into the second period when a free kick was excellently converted by Achilles' top marksman, Andy Coote.

Any hopes that Achilles had of taking the proceedings over were cruelly lost almost immediately when two defensive mistakes in quick succession allowed the homesters to regain their lead. Worse was to follow when similar frailties in Achilles defensive approach saw Haughley gratefully take a 4-1 lead. Liam Hillyard, just about Achilles' best forward, slotted home a fine free kick but it was too little too late and Haughley fully deserved their 4-2 victory against a rather ineffective Achilles' side.
