Club Notes 13 September 2015

Mixed fortunes for the two Achilles' squads on Saturday with the Seniors losing 3-1 at home against a rejuvenated Grundisburgh while the Inter As maintained their 100% record with a 6-3 win over at the village. Senior managers Luke Hillyard and Jamie King were forced to make changes with the experienced Chris Leys and Ricky Deasy both unavailable although the recent signing of Matt Ryland and the return of Keiron Donovan should have balanced matters out. However, an early own goal put Grundisburgh on their way, a lead they held up to the break. Worse was to come with our visitors going further ahead just into the second period and the real turning point came with some 15 minutes to go when a clear trip in the Grundisburgh penalty area was missed by the officials and Grundisburgh raced down to the other end to score a stunning third. Liam Hillyard did emulate that effort with one of his own but Grundisburgh held on with little trouble to their well-deserved delight.

Meanwhile, over at the village, our youthful hosts came back from a 4-1 deficit to 4-3 but two late efforts gave the Inter As all three points and top position in the table. Marksmen were "Scoop" McCarthy (3), "JT" (2), and Dean McEwan.

The Seniors match was sponsored by Achilles' former manager, Shaun Deller, and we thank him for his continued interest and support. Next Saturday the Seniors visit Wickham Market for an early 1pm kick off while the Inter As welcome Felixstowe Harpers Utd to Salmet
