Club Notes 28 September 2015

Mixed blessing for Achilles on Saturday with the depleted Inter As taking the plaudits with a fine 3-2 win at Beccles against the homesters' reserves in the 1st round of the SFA Senior Reserve Cup, while the Seniors lost out at home, 3-1, against a hardworking Leiston St Margarets squad.

The Inter As had been hit, disappointingly, by a number of "call-offs" and it is to the credit of managers Reece Nunn and Austen King that a "passport" was earned to the next round away at Capel on the 7th November. Praise, too, for ace clubman, Paul (Sparky) Sparke, who travelled with the lads, expecting to be a mere spectator, finishing up in his former role as linesman. Marksmen were Dean McEwan (2) and Grant Barrett while man of the match was Jamie Moran.

Meanwhile, the Seniors' match was, to say the least, puzzling with Achilles enjoying 90% of the play, our visitors having just three real efforts at goal (and converting each time), leaving us rueing the missed chances. Liam Hillyard was Achilles' marksman late on from the penalty spot. An outcome to ponder upon for managers Luke Hillyard and Jamie King.

The 100 Club is now underway with the early lucky winners: Robin Morley (24) and Ian Abbott (26).

Next Saturday the Seniors will be at Stanton while the Inter As welcome Ipswich Valley Rangers to Salmet Close.
