Club Notes 4 October 2015

A happy clubhouse for Achilles late Saturday afternoon with the Seniors returning from Stanton with an impressive 2-0 victory under their belts while the Inter As, at home, had comprehensively beaten Ipswich Valley Rangers' Inter As 6-0 to consolidate their position at the head of the table.
Amazingly, the Club has been hit with another major goal-keeping injury with, now, Doug' Mustoe joining the ranks after just a few minutes and, indeed, in his home village. The versatile Ricky Deasy took over between the "sticks" and, actually, had very little to do in the remaining 80 minutes or so.

Once again, the general superiority of the squad could (should?) have been converted into more than the two registered by Liam Hillyard (or was it an og?) and "the younger" Van Oeone late in the second half. Never mind, the victory, raising Achilles to third in the table, was a tonic after the disappointing home defeat against Leiston the previous week and the real concerns in the short future will be to ensure that "both sets of sticks" are tended by fit 'keepers.

Back home at Salmet Close the result was never really in doubt and one had to feel sympathy for IVR's Inter A management team for the difficulties they face emanating from the overall problems at the Club. I'm sure with dedicated officers such as Calvin Berry and the Inter As' managers the "corner will be turned" but it could take time and, certainly, those of us at Achilles do hope the youngsters forming the majority of the opposition will "hang in there" for better days. Two or three of the missing players from that fine 3-2 win at Beccles Town in the SFA Senior Reserves Cup last week were back on show, not least, "Scoop" McCarthy, who notched four fine goals with the other two registered by Dean McEwan and JP Taylor.
This week both squads will be engaged against Wenhaston with the Inter As making the trip up the A12.

The latest 100 Club winners are No: 2 Steve Chambers and No: 6 Miriam Sparke. Finally, on a sad note, Achilles send condolences to the sons and relations of Eileen Sharman, who passed away recently, Eileen was the widow of the former Whitton 'keeper and excellent referee, Bob. One of Eileen's brothers, Ian, was an Achilles' man several seasons ago now.
