Club Notes 13 October 2015

Achilles enjoyed a "double header" against Wenhaston United last Saturday with the Seniors drawing 2-2 at Salmet Close and the Inter As travelling up the A12 to the village to record a 3-1 success.

The Seniors' game was an absolute treat for the non-committed spectator (and there was a fair few of them enjoying the proceedings) with some fine football played by both teams. Wenhaston took the lead early on via a fine header only for our leading scorer, Liam Hillyard, to fight his way through to beat the visiting custodian soon after. Even better was to come for our visitors via a superb horizontal bicycle kick which left our defence standing. However, never let it be said that a Luke Hillyard squad doesn't have resolution and it was Liam again to follow up Ben Taylor's stinging drive to draw the scores level at the break. The second half followed a similar pattern except that the goals were missing with Achilles' coming closest to taking all three points when Joe Revell's fine run culminated with an equally fine cross shot which hit the bottom of the far post. All in all, great stuff!

Meanwhile, the Inter As were bolstered with the news that top scorer, Scoop McCarthy, had recovered from his mid-week training injury and he contributed two more to his already impressive total for the season thus far. Wenhaston came back to introduce some minor jitters in our defence but Gary McEwan notched a third to ensure all three points travelled back down the A12.

This Saturday, just one game with the Seniors entertaining Team Bury from the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties 1st Division - a 2 15pm kick off.
