Club Notes 19 October 2015

Just the one fixture for the Club last week-end with the Seniors welcoming Team Bury to Salmet Close in the 1st round of the Suffolk Senior Cup for a match sponsored by Ipswich Decorators. Team Bury represent an Academy style approach between Bury Town and the West Suffolk College and, typically, we were confronted by a young, fast, and entertaining squad contributing to a fine game of football between two well-matched teams.

The only goal of the first half was a sizzling "daisy-cutter" from Achilles' top marksman, Liam Hillyard, and for much of the second period this seemed likely to be the only score of the match. However, Team Bury's right winger had other ideas and brought the scores level with a fine shot to the near post with just 15 minutes left. Time for near veteran, Andy Coote, to mark his return from the subs' bench with a superb header to make it 2-1 and take the Club through to the second round. A fine match, well if occasionally eccentrically controlled by the three officials, and watched by a fair-sized crowd considering the "attraction" just down the road at Portman Road.

Man of Achilles' match was Josh Little with a much improved display, Matty Ryland brought experience and resilience to the left hand side of the defence allowing Joe Revell to "raid" further up and, of course, the return of Andy proved a match winning move. This coming Saturday the Seniors return to SIL Senior League action at East Bergholt while the Inter As entertain Westerfield Utd Inter As here at Salmet Close.
