2012-2013 season

Achilles 4 – 5 Stanton 8/12/12

Earlier in the season Achilles knocked Stanton out of the Suffolk Senior Cup in a high scoring encounter and on Saturday a very lively Stanton side had the best of a nine goal thriller at Salmet Close.   The first half was end to end football with both sides committed to attack and creating good goal scoring chances.  The first goal was a delight to see as Matthew Musgrove threw a dummy  inside the penalty, leaving two Achilles defenders and the goalkeeper on their backsides, and stroked the ball into the empty net.  Achilles first equaliser was contested by Stanton but the alert officials were adamant that the defender had cleared from beyond the goal line.
Mike Campbell set up Chris Forsdyke for Stanton's second and Jack Wilkinson scored Achilles second equaliser with a header directly from a corner.  Ben Dalby put Stanton 3-2 up from Campbell's cross and Campbell added a fourth with an unstoppable shot into the top corner.  Achilles mounted a concerted assault on the Stanton goal in the final 15 minutes and were rewarded with a third equaliser with goals from substitutes Philip Deller and Tommy Vale.  Directly from the restart, with Achilles still celebrating, Campbell raced away to lob the keeper in virtually the last kick of the match.
