2012-2013 season

Achilles 2 – 1 Haughley United 24/11/12

A first half brace from in-form striker Ben Taylor sealed the points for Achilles. The first chance fell to the Nathan Smith for the visitors whose downward diving header bounced up and onto the crossbar, but it was Achilles that took the lead when Taylor rounded Airide and found the net from an acute angle. Achilles put Airide under pressure from a string of corners but the Haughley custodian stood firm and then did well to tip over a powerful drive by Dominic Arnold from 20 yards. Achilles' second goal was a breakaway that would have graced any game. Chris Leys sprinted onto a raking pass down the right wing and drove first time into the 6 yard box. Taylor won the race through the middle to slide the ball home in style giving Airide no chance.
As the weather conditions deteriorated in the second half, the quality of the football also slipped but Haughley pressed hard and were rewarded with a goal from Kwame Jones. Achilles should have increased their lead but substitute Tommy Vale shot wide after doing well to get on the end of Josh Capocci's right wing cross. Sean Bell and Brent Richards again defended stoutly in the central positions for Achilles and held out as the light faded at the end of the match.
