Long Melford FC, currently languishing near the bottom of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division 1, gave Achilles a lesson in clinical finishing to dump them out of the Suffolk Senior Cup. Achilles started confidently and after 10 minutes Chris Leys headed wide from Ben Taylor's enticing cross, then Dan Lynn in the Melford goal did well to tip over a deflected shot by Luke Hillyard and on 20 minutes Taylor wriggled free but his shot was stopped at full stretch by Lynn. It had been all Achilles but when Danny Twyman pounced on a mix-up in the home defence to shoot into an open net, the momentum shifted and experienced centre forward Martin Westcott took full advantage adding two more before to interval. It looked curtains for Achilles when Carl Daw escaped the offside to put the visitors 4-0 ahead, but a fortunate own goal ten minutes from time inspired Achilles and Ben Taylor added a second shortly afterwards. Five minutes extra time were added but Long Melford held on to progress to the Quarter finals.
