Achilles 3 - 3 East Bergholt United 6/2/16

The much publicised SIL top of the table clash between league leaders East Bergholt and challengers Achilles lived up to expectations and produced an all-action contest that thrilled the large crowd.

Bergholt stunned the homesters with a goal after only 30 seconds when Danny Garrad intercepted a weak back pass to score in off the far post. Achilles equalised after 10 minutes, a cross from Gavin Van Oene caught on the wind and sailed into the top corner over a stranded Gary Hammond and they went ahead soon after through Andy Coote who wriggled free and placed his shot accurately wide of Hammond. Achilles went 3-1 up after 15 minutes Liam Hillyard running onto a measured through ball by David Grimwood. Hillyard was then unlucky to see his shot hit the crossbar just before half time.

Both sides continued to play attacking football after the break and the turning point came when Hammond saved well at the feet of Hillyard and a defender blocked the follow up on the goal line. Bergholt controlled much of the rest of the game. Joel Watkins turned in Tom Wilson's cut back and Ben Bibby blasted in from the spot after Garrad had been brought down to bring the scores level. All in all, a fair result to a thoroughly entertaining game.
