Haughley United 2 - Achilles 3 Bob Coleman Cup 27/2/16

Achilles reached the League Cup Semi Final with a terrific performance to topple the League Leaders. They totally dominated the opening half hour and early sustained pressure resulted in Lee Grimwood netting from a tight angle in the 12th minute. Liam Hillyard Lee Grimwood and Andy Coote threatened to overun a weakened home defence and Kieren Donavon sent a snapshot over. In the 27th minute Achilles stretched their lead when creative play culminated with Daniel Allen prodding home at the far post and moments later Chris Leys headed just over. 'Bergholt' failed to make any impact until the 36th minute when Ben Bibby's free kick found Ian Gedny who headed into the path of Scott Fryer who drilled home a low shot. Gedny then had a great chance but Jack Foster made a fine block. Just before the break Gavin Vandene tested Gary Hammond with a rasping shot but he was equal with a flying save.

Achilles carried the greatest threat therafter and there all round superiority was rewarded when brilliant play by powerhouse Liam Hillyard sent a low cross with pace that substitute Ben Taylor fired in but Hammond partially saved and the impressive Daniel Allen tapped home the loose ball. In injury time Danny Garrod blasted a sensational free kick that struck the post and then ricochet of a visiting defender for a 2- 3 finish. Achilles will now meet Kesgrave or Bramford in the semi final.
