2012-2013 season

Stanton 3 – 4 Achilles 6/10/12 Suffolk Senior Cup

Last year's semi-finalists Achilles scored four times in a thrilling first half to progress to the next round of the Suffolk Senior Cup. Previous meetings of these two clubs had turned into fractious affairs, but this was an end-to-end rip-roarer of a game that thoroughly entertained the small but totally committed crowd. Man of the match Chris Leys was immense in the heart of the visitor's defence and, in addition, added a penalty after Andy Coote had been tripped and then stepped up to rise at the far post and head the winning goal. That is not to say that Stanton did not make their contribution; Adam Rickwood was a constant thorn in the Achilles defence, twice reducing the deficit for the home side, the second in spectacular fashion. Indeed, the long throw proved a “twelfth man” for Stanton's and their third goal came from such. Ben Taylor had opened the scoring for Achilles after 10 mins coolly placing past Mayhew and Dominic Arnold added the second with one of three 25 yarders, the second hit the post and the third the crossbar. Remarkably the second period was goalless, but Achilles created and spurned several good chances as Stanton committed more players forward.
