2012-2013 season

East Bergholt 1 – 0 Achilles 29/9/12

Bergholt took the lead after 10 minutes. A free kick from the right wing found an unmarked James Phillips whose powerful header was parried by Ross Charters in the Achilles goal and Ian Gedney was on the spot to nod in the rebound from close range. The first half was an exciting open contest with both teams playing attractive football. Chances fell to both sides and there were no less than 5 goal line clearances in the half. Chris Leys came the closest for Achilles with two headers, the first onto the crossbar and the second unfortunately blocked by his own team mate on the goal line.
By contrast the second period was totally dominated by Achilles. As the pressure on the East Bergholt goal mounted, the penalty area was peppered with crosses notably by Arnold and Hillyard but the home defence stood firm. On 83 minutes Chris Leys headed just wide and substitute Ben Taylor struck the foot of the post, however the home goal remained intact for East Bergholt to claim the victory. The match was well refereed by Mr Maurice Scrivener.
