Leiston St Margarets started brightly and Charters in the home goal was called into action three times in the first 10 minutes notably saving from Darren Harper at close range. However it was Achilles that dominated the remainder of the match but were unable to convert their undoubted superiority and territorial advantage into goals. The home side were playing attractive passing football and managed to create space for Mickey Adams in the penalty area but his shot was wide of the target. Andy Coote beat the offside line but checked back instead of going on and the chance was lost. There were several goalmouth scrambles in the Leiston penalty area as the first half remained goalless.
Achilles continued the pressure in second period. Coote struck the foot of the post with a deflected shot and Chris Leys brought a brilliant save from Lambert with a free kick from 25 yards. Leiston had their best chance after 70 minutes but Harper's lob drifted wide.
