Achilles 2 - 0 Henley Athletic
After a midweek defeat, Achilles were pleased to run out 2 – 0 winners in their opening home game of the season. Achilles took the lead in the 10th minute when Lee Grimwood played in Sean Hanley who had time to lob the advancing goalkeeper. Henley were unlucky not to equalise as Stephen Cole cut in from the right wing to see his shot rebound off the far goalpost.
Henley continued to press for an equaliser in the second half but, despite good approach play, were unable to apply the telling touches in the penalty area. For all the Henley pressure, it was Adam Bond, in the visitor's goal, who was called on to tip over Gavin Van Oene’s well struck effort midway through the half. Ben Taylor led the Achilles line valiantly throughout and his persistence set up Van Oene to make the game safe for Achilles in the final minutes.
