A drinks break after 25 mins seemed to open the game out and the first real chance immediately fell to Aaron Robinson for Haughley who failed to hit the target when well placed to meet a far post cross. Aaron Mayhew then saved from Andy Coote before Tom Gordon robbed Sean Bell to cause confusion in the visitor's defence. Ross Charters was quickly off his line to smother the winger's shot and the follow up struck the bar as Achilles struggled to regroup. But it was Achilles that took the lead after 40 minutes. A cross by Coote found Luke Hillyard unmarked at the far post and his volley into the ground bounced into the far corner of the net. Haughley United equalised just before half time. Tom Gordon called for and received a pass inside the full back and ran on to crash his shot past Charters in fine style. A hard fought second period, although entertaining, yielded few incidents of note. The visitors perhaps held the balance of the play but were unable to craft clear cut scoring opportunities. In the end, a draw was a fair result between two evenly matched sides.
