Club Notes 6 September 2016

Wenhaston Utd were welcomed to Salmet Close last Saturday and an open, well appreciated match ensued with Achilles the ultimate winners by a comfortable 5-2 margin. However, that was not before our plucky visitors, having conceded a scrambled goal finally notched by Kieron Donovan, went into a 2-1 lead courtesy of a fortuitous penalty and a well converted second. The reverse galvanised Achilles into action and superb efforts from Danny Allen and Lee Grimwood registered a 3-2 interval lead. The second period was almost all Achilles and further goals from Lee and Gavin Van Oene secured, in the end, a comfortable three points.

Meanwhile, the Inter As up the A12 at Wenhaston, enjoyed virtually the whole 90 minutes in their hosts' half but, try as they might including losing out on an obvious penalty shout refused by the referee, had to be content with a single point from a 0-0 result.

This coming Saturday the Seniors make the short journey to the "born again" Ransomes Sports Centre (now run by IBC) in Sidegate Avenue while the Inter As entertain Mendlesham at Salmet Close. The following Saturday (24th) the Seniors visit Haughley Utd while the Inter As have an attractive home Suffolk Senior Reserves Cup tie against Felixstowe Harpers.

This season, in the disciplinary field, Achilles are adding a £5 admin fee to the "yellows" (£10) given to players - whether this will restrict the numbers depends on the lads (and, of course, the referees!). In addition, for each player signed-on, Achilles must register them as members of the Pauls Sports & Social Club and that fee, together with a further admin charge to cover, in particular, training costs, need to be paid (to Achilles) no later than the 30th September.
