Achilles 3 - 3 Stanton 1/10/16

Achilles were playing the better football using their wingers, with Stanton employing long passes to their speedy forwards. Campbell outran the home defence but lost control at the vital moment then Allen for Achilles hit the post sliding in at the far post to meet a teasing cross by McCarthy. On 25 minutes Achilles took the lead Van Oene converting a cross by Allen and then doubled their lead from a Ryland free kick headed home emphatically by McCarthy.

Achilles went further ahead from a free kick at the start of the second half, Ryland stroking the ball into an unguarded net as Stanton were organising a defensive wall. Stanton re-organised and packed the midfield, taking the initiative away from the home side. As Achilles struggled to cope, Stanton pegged back the lead with goals by Campbell and Cordell. Achilles rallied and powerful strikes by Van Oene and Taylor were well saved before a strong run and cross from Campbell was turned in by Hesset to level the scores. A proverbial “game of two halves”.
