Achilles 5 - 2 Haughley United (Suffolk Senior Cup) 15/10/16

Achilles progressed to the next round of the Suffolk Senior Cup in an entertaining game at Salmet Close. Sean Hanley opened the scoring for Achilles after 10 minutes with a well placed shot from the edge of the penalty area. Liam Hillyard marked his return to the Ipswich club with a high quality brace to give them a 3 – 0 half time lead. For his first, Hillyard picked up the ball on the half way line and drove at the Haughley goal, played a one-two with Lee Grimwood before slotting a shot just inside the far post. Then a quickly taken free kick by Matty Ryland set up Hillyard for his second goal.

Haughley scored directly from the restart. A cross from the right wing bounced off the far goal post and James Hawkins drove the ball home through a packed goalmouth. On the hour Lee Grimwood played in Gavin Van Oene who placed his shot wide of Aaron Mayhew in the visitor’s goal. Achilles keeper Jack Foster saved well from a Haughley breakaway but the ball fell to Aaron Robinson who kept his composure to stroke the ball into the unguarded net. With 10 minutes remaining, ex-Haughley centre forward Ryan Wragg came on to wrap the game up for Achilles with a signature finish.
