Club Notes 17 October 2016

Just the one match for Achilles last Saturday when, before a goodly crowd, the Seniors proceeded to the 3rd round of the SFA Senior Cup via a fine 5-2 victory over Haughley United.

With a little fortune we had secured all three points in the SIL Senior Division at Haughley just a month ago and, clearly, our visitors were primed to overcome their disappointment for that League reverse. Achilles were thrilled to welcome back Liam Hillyard after his short taste of Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League action with Felixstowe & Walton United, and he didn't disappoint with two of the first three goals, his first an exquisite "one two". Sean Hanley had put the team ahead with a shot to the near post which completely fooled the Haughley custodian and the break came with that three goal margin apparently secure. However, Haughley had other ideas and pulled one back immediately after the break only for Gav Van Oene to restore the gap with a clever tap in. However, once again our visitors came back with a fine finish only for Ryan Wragg, for the third time this season, to come on late in the match to score and restore the three goal margin.

This coming Saturday, another home match at Salmet Close with Bramford Utd the visitors for a top table SIL Senior Division clash while the Inter As make the long journey to Bury St Edmunds to take on Sporting 87 Inter As.

Finally, the latest 100 Club winners were No: 49 Shaun Deller and No: 32 Judy Middle.
