East Bergholt United 3 - 7 Achilles 29/10/16
Long serving Achillian Kieran Donovan bagged a hat trick as Achilles maintained their place at the head of the senior division of the SIL with a convincing victory in the sunshine in front of a large crowd at East Bergholt.
However, for 30 minutes, East Bergholt United more than held their own, taking the lead with a James Heathcote penalty in the opening exchanges. Gavin Van Oene replied for Achilles from the edge of the penalty area and Ben Yates headed in unchallenged from a corner to restore the home advantage. Donovan equalised with a shot from 25 yards, Liam Hillyard struck the post and Donovan volleyed his second to leave Achilles 3-2 up at the break.
The second period belonged to Achilles. Further goals by Van Oene, Donovan and Hillyard underlined the visitor’s dominance before Nathan Smith scored for East Bergholt United from close range. Courtney David completed the scoring in the final minutes.
