Achilles 2 - 3 Cranes Sports 5/11/16

Crane Sports leapfrogged their hosts in a thrilling top of the table clash watched by a large crowd at Salmet Close. The first chance fell to Achilles’ Lee Grimwood but Bedingfield spread himself well to make the save. Achilles took the lead in the 20th minute when Liam Hillyard was put in by David Grimwood and his powerful drive found the corner of the goal. Cranes Sports came straight back and Ross Rands equalised following a free kick that was not properly cleared.

Cranes went ahead early in the second period from a corner curled in under the bar that Jack Foster, under pressure, could not scoop clear. Cranes pressed and would have scored a third but for a remarkable goal line clearance by Matthew Ryland. Achilles made changes and Ryan Wragg did well by the corner flag to cross for Carl McCarthy to head in off the post with 5 minutes remaining. The referee was playing injury time when James Blades cut in from the right wing to score with a well hit left foot shot to the near post for the Cranes winner.
