Club Notes 5/12/16

A most successful Saturday for Achilles operating in the north of the County with the Seniors winning 5-1 in an SIL Senior League encounter at Stanton while the Inter As at the nearby, so impressive, Walsham le Willows sports complex, were triumphant, 3-2, after extra time, in an SFA Senior Reserves quarter-final tie.

The Seniors' victory was significant for the attractive play throughout of the whole squad and, in particular, the personal performance of "Scoop" McCarthy who went "nap hand" in registering personally all five goals - quite a feat! Managers, Luke Hillyard and Andy Coote, were more than just pleased with the performance which keeps Achilles close to arch rivals, Crane Sports, in the Senior Division table.

Meanwhile, just down the road and under floodlights the Inter As, managed by former (successful) Seniors' manager, Alan Middle, as the result of Reece Nunn's unavailability, and bolstered by the (temporary?) return to Saturday football of Alan's (also successful) successor, Lee Osborn, achieved that 3-2 passage against higher level opponents. The win was all the more meritorious because of the necessary "hassle" in the late, changed, preparations and the very slightly off key performance in the squad's latest Table "A" performance at East Bergholt the previous Saturday. Marksmen were Jack Middle, JP Taylor, and almost on (extra time) time, Matt McCarthy (pen).

Well done to both squads and victories to gladden the heart of president, David Routh, who because of contact problems was unaware of the results until his telephone call to chairman, Dave Morgan, after the successful week-end.
This coming Saturday the Seniors welcome Coplestonians to Salmet Close for another important Senior League match while the Inter As travel the short distance to the Ipswich School complex (previously Willis Faber) to meet Westerfield Utd's Inter As in an equally important league encounter.

Away from the park(s), draw books for Achilles' annual Xmas Draw arranged for Sunday 8th January in the Pauls Sports & Social Club house have now been circulated widely and prize donations for the Draw would be most gratefully received.
