Achilles 3 - 1 Coplestonians FC 10/12/16
High flying Achilles were made to work very hard for their victory by a resolute Coplestonians. Achilles dominated the first 20 minutes, but it was the visitors who took the lead when Virgilio Leitao beat the offside line to race through and finish neatly chipping over the advancing keeper. Achilles responded and Carl McCarthy’s shot was well saved before David Grimwood headed against the crossbar. Achilles equalised before half time when McCarthy headed home Danny Allen’s left wing cross.
Coplestonians mounted a determined rearguard action and repelled wave after wave of Achilles’ attacks to hold out until 15 minutes from the end. Kieran Donovan dribbled to the byline and pulled the ball back for Liam Hillyard who made no mistake from 6 yards. McCarthy scored the third Achilles goal from a breakaway on the final whistle after Coplestonians had thrown everyone forward.
