Club Notes 9/1/2017

A successful, if traumatic, week-end for both teams last Saturday with the Seniors (the holders) at Bramford Utd proceeding to the next round of the SIL Bob Coleman League Cup while the Inter As at home triumphed in the end against a valiant Coplestonian squad.

The Seniors' match was a full blooded affair with no quarter asked for or given in the first 45 minutes. However, just into the second period Achilles took the lead and then came an incident which could have totally changed the match against Achilles but, in the end, and much against the odds went our way. The "fun" started when a heavy tackle on "Scoop" McCarthy resulted in a mini fracas, the outcome being the unfortunate dismissal of Danny Allen. This could have resulted in Bramford taking the initiative but some superb "break away" play on our part saw the 10 men score three more to register a fine 4-0 victory and progress to the next round. Marksmen were Lee and David Grimwood and Gav Van Oene. The "sad" side of the second half proceedings was the award by the referee of no less than five "yellows" against Achilles for, frankly, "mini" offences but the squad came through to register a fine victory and a next round fixture at home against an improving Grundisburgh outfit on the 21st January.

Meanwhile, the Inter As were 3-0 down at one stage against the Cops' but a goal just before the break and, then, a fine second half showing, aided by some shrewd changes by manager, Reece Nunn, saw Matt McCarthy add to his first half score and Jack Middle notching two to give the lads a fine 4-3 win. News is in that the SFA Senior Reserves Semi-final tie against Stowmarket Res will be on the 25th February on the Woodbridge Town ground.

This Saturday both squads are "up the A12" with the Seniors at Wenhaston while the Inter As are a little further up at Framlingham.
