Club Notes 30 Jan 2017

Not quite 100% for the Club at the week-end but the outstanding feature was the Seniors' 7-1 triumph at Bramford for the successful second of three visits to the villagers' ground this season. Meanwhile the Inter As, hosting Old Newton's counterparts, were 2-1 up with less than five minutes left but, despite enjoying the lion's share of the match, conceded again almost at the death to share the points.

The Seniors' visit, following closely the 4-0 win in the SIL Bob Coleman Cup (which we currently hold), was this time a re-arranged Senior League fixture with just the SFA Senior Cup-tie to follow at the same venue in March.

By all accounts, generously endorsed by our hosts, the Bramford win was probably the performance of the season thus far to the obvious and deserved delight of managers, Luke Hillyard and Andy Coote and coach Carl Parsley. It would be wrong to pick out individual performances, this was a squad effort "par excellence", suffice it to record that the marksmen were Liam Hillyard (2), Lee Grimwood, David Grimwood, Sean Hanley, Gavin Van Oene, and Keiron Donovan.

The Inter As match was significant for the visit of former linesman, and long term Achillian, Paul Sparke, after his illness and for long periods of an always attractive match it seemed that he would be rewarded with a home win. However, not for the first time this season manager, Reece Nunn's, concern was the inability to finish off promising moves. Marksmen were Matt McCarthy (pen) and "Gaz" Coplen.

This week the Seniors welcome Leiston St Margarets to Salmet Close for an SIL Senior League match, back to a 2 30 pm kick off, to be sponsored by Rosemary Shorten (widow of former "Trojan", John) and we thank Rosemary for her continued interest and support each season.
