Club Notes March 7 2017

With the away match at Wenhaston postponed for an unfit ground the second time within a few weeks attention was focused on the Inter As who, after the disappointment of losing out to Stowmarket Reserves in the SFA Senior Reserves Cup semi-final on the Woodbridge Town ground, needed a "pick-u-up" in the cause of the possible chance of still winning the SIL Inter A League.

Our visitors to Salmet Close, East Bergholt Inter As, were just one position ahead in third position in the table and with both Hoxne and Westerfield Inter As also likely to be involved in six-pointers that top spot was (is?) certainly something still to aim for!

Overall, the match was a credit to both squads with Achilles leading at the break by 2-1 after our visitors' fine left-winger had put his colleagues ahead with a fine run and shot, nullified by two typically opportunist strikes by the experienced Matt McCarthy. Early play in the second period favoured Achilles and fine efforts from Gary Coplen and Josh Little put us 4-1 up and, surely, there? Not so, the gallant "Bergholters" came back with two efforts to put the final score in doubt. However, Reece Nunn's boys held out for a fine 4-3 win.

This coming Saturday the Seniors are at Bramford for an SFA Senior Cup quarter final tie, involving the third visit to the village this season, while the Inter As welcome their counterparts from just down the road, Ipswich Ath Inter As.

Away from the park a reminder of the triple organised Race Night in the Pauls clubhouse on the 25th March, followed by the annual Presentation Evening on the 13th May, the Reunion Dinner on the 26th May, and the annual Golf Day on the 30th June - watch this space for more information.
