Club Notes 13 August 2017

Since the last notes containing pleasing, if short, references to the Seniors' three friendlies start to the new season (excellent wins against Hadleigh, Ipswich Wanderers, and Wickham Market) a hastily arranged evening friendly against old rivals, and for the time being, 1st Divisioners, Old Newton FC turned out to be a well fought match with our lads taking the ultimate honours via a 4-1 scoreline. However, a supportive word for the long serving Newton official, David Shave, on this showing and with a new manager it seems more than likely that he'll be back at Senior level in no time at all.

Another hastily arranged friendly on Saturday saw a largely Senior complement trounce Whitton United's A team opponents but all credit to our hosts for the late arrangements for this run out and it was heartening to meet old friends, including Tommy Woodward, looking at the peak of his health while keeping an eye on his promising Eastern Counties Leaguers.

Top marks to Reece Nunn and Jamie King for looking after the arrangements for the visit to Whitton. However, once again, with a few notable exceptions, there was an absence of Inter As "talent" highlighting the unfortunate position Achilles are in at this late stage of the close season with a dearth of players for the battle ahead. In this respect if there is prospective talent out there seeking to play SIL Senior reserve football on the superb Pauls Sports & Social Club's pitch please don't hesitate to contact chairman Dave Morgan in the first instance on either 01473 435867 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
