2012-2013 season

Achilles 1 - 0 Capel Plough 30/3/13

Both Achilles and Capel were sporting unbeaten runs but the first half was a dour contest, with neither team showing the quality to create goalscoring chances nor the flair to break the deadlock.  To be fair, both teams were under strength, Capel in particular without Middlebrook, their main striker.

Achilles were generally on top, but the first chance fell to Capel's Wayne Pannell who broke clear but lobbed his effort wide of the goal.  Achilles had strong claims for a penalty turned down when Keiran Donovan was bundled over by the goalkeeper. The winning goal came in the 85th minute from a corner that wasn't cleared.  In the ensuing scramble first Ben Taylor, then Keiran Donovan appeared to have efforts blocked on the goal line, but the assistant referee, who was well placed, flagged for a goal.  After consulting with his assistant, referee Mr Butcher awarded the goal.  Achilles are now clear third in a three horse race at the top of the table.
