Crane Sports 3 -3 Achilles 11/11/17

The match was preceded by a Remembrance Day minute’s silence respectfully honoured by a sizeable crowd.

The top SIL match of the day resulted in a 3 -3 draw between Ipswich teams Crane Sports and Achilles.  Both sides could be pleased with the outcome of a high intensity game that see-sawed back and forth, assisted by a good referee who allowed the play to flow despite many strong but fair challenges.

Cranes took an early lead when Danny George chased down a wayward back pass.  Achilles fought back and equalised when Gavin Van Oene scored from an acute angle. Shortly afterwards, “Yarpy” Van Oene cleared off the line for Cranes before Lee Grimwood set up  brother David to put Achilles 2 -1 up.  Teon Leggett then equalised from the penalty spot and after 40 minutes Leggett took on his full back and shot past Chaplin to put Cranes  3-2  ahead.   Mo Fike had a clear chance to increase Cranes lead but headed narrowly over the crossbar. Mid way through the second period, Lee Grimwood pounced on indecision in the Cranes defence for the third equaliser of the match.
