Achilles 4 - 0 Hoxne 23/12/17
The third meeting of Achilles and Hoxne this season ended with a 4 – 0 victory for the Ipswich side. The first half was goalless but the best opportunities fell to Achilles’ Gavin Van Oene who twice failed to hit the target when well placed.
David Grimwood was running the game for Achilles and his quickly taken free kick at the start of the second half set up Van Oene whose cross shot grazed the far post. The deadlock was broken on the hour when Sean Hanley shot through a packed penalty area into the roof of the net. Grimwood’s neat pass put Carl McCarthy in on goal to double the lead. The third was a bizarre own goal. Joe Revel crossed from the left wing and the goalkeeper under pressure from McCarthy fisted clear straight on to his own player’s forehead and unluckily into the goal. Ivan Buxton rounded off the scoring with a classy solo effort cutting in from the right wing.
