Achilles 3 - 2 Wenhaston United 30/12/17
Achilles came from behind to snatch victory from Wenhaston United and keep up the pressure on SIL leaders Benhall who lead the senior division by 2 points but Achilles have 4 games in hand.
Achilles took the lead on the half hour. David Grimwood dribbled into the penalty area and his shot was parried to “Scoop” McCarthy, deadly from 6 yards out. Grimwood repeated the tactic moments later and was tripped. Alan Henderson dived to his right to save the penalty kick.
Wenhaston enjoyed a good spell after half time. Shaun Chaplin saved well from Joe Clarke, but was left standing when Lewis Chenery slid in the equaliser shortly followed by another goal scored by Stuart Tomkins who took advantage of some woeful home defending.
The momentum shifted as Achilles brought on Liam Hillyard in the 65th minute. Scoop headed onto the crossbar 10 minutes from the end. Just as all seemed lost Hillyard burst through to be brought down by the keeper. Scoop made no mistake from the spot. Another surging run by Hillyard set up Ivan Buxton to hook home with moments remaining.
