Club Notes September 20th 2018

With a blank date for the Reserves all eyes last Saturday were on the Seniors' crucial home match against SIL Senior League leaders, Crane Sports.

An excellent crowd was there at Salmet Close to witness another epic struggle between the two Clubs who, with one or two exceptions, have dominated this competition over recent seasons. A fine match ensued and, certainly for most of the first 45 minutes, Achilles looked the more likely of the two to take all three points. Indeed, after some 25 minutes it was Andy Crump who put us ahead via a towering jump and header. Gradually our visitors came more into the game and, almost out of nowhere, James Blades turned and brought the scores level with a fine shot over the 'keeper. Exchanges were subsequently shared up to the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern although, gradually, our visitors seemed to be enjoying more of the proceedings. With just 15 minutes to go a fine save by Danny Crump led to a Crane's header striking the underside of the crossbar before being cleared. Alas, the Asst Referee signalled a goal despite some doubts on the part of the Achilles' faithful, and our visitors, now "cock a hoop", held on for the remainder of the match with little trouble to take all three points.

Disappointing for the home faithful but still a long, long, way to go giving us fair scope to hang on to that Senior League title.

This Saturday the Seniors make the short journey to Grundisburgh for a Senior League encounter while the Reserves have an attractive home fixture against Framlingham Town Res.
